Root Canal Treatment

Millions of teeth undergo root canal, or endodontic treatment and are saved each year. We recommend root canal treatment if patients suffer from pain from their tooth, as a root canal can relieve their tooth pain.

The root canal procedure, is typically necessary when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected. If the pulp becomes inflamed or infected it can be due to a variety of reasons, including:

  • Deep decay,
  • Repeated dental procedures on the tooth,
  • Faulty crowns,
  • Or a crack or chip in the tooth.

Additionally, pulp damage can also be caused due to trauma to a tooth and contain chips or cracks that may not be visible. Should patients choose not to treat the inflamed or infected pulp, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.

Root canal treatments can save your tooth

The inflamed or infected pulp is removed during the root canal treatment, and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected. We then fill and seal the area with a natural rubber material called 'gutta-percha'. Once this has been completed the tooth is then restored with a crown or filling for protection.

Saving the natural tooth with root canal treatment has many advantages:

  • Efficient chewing
  • Normal biting force and sensation
  • Natural appearance
  • Protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain

We do our best to ensure that you have a comfortable experience during and after your appointment. With our use of modern technology, our root canal treatments are completed seamlessly and can be compared to a routine filling and usually can be completed in one or two appointments, but can vary depending on the condition of your tooth and your personal circumstances. We have a 3D imaging CBCT to find difficult root canal anatomy to ensure successful treatment.

Our endodontic treatments are here to help you maintain your smile, and continue eating the foods you love that also limits the need for ongoing dental work. We encourage all of our patients to practice proper oral care to maintain healthy teeth for a lifetime.
